In 1978 Fred Rossiter saw the need for equipment rentals and industrial sales in the Conception Bay North area. At the time there was no such service available to the fishing and construction industries. So Fred decided to leave the mining industry in Labrador and return home to Carbonear and start his dream , Avalon Industrial & Marine Supply.
Starting with a few hand tools Fred soon grew the business on a simple philosophy of quality products , integrity and customer service.After 10 years serving the CBN area it was time to expand, adding a 1800 sq. ft. retail space to the Carbonear store. Then in 1993 Fred seen the opportunity to expand again with a branch in Bay Roberts. At the time the fishery was experiencing its darkest days but Fred was determined to succeed. Now with two locations Avalon Industrial & Marine Supply was in the position to even better serve the needs of Conception and Trinity Bays.
Fred's integrity was not lost by his sons Dave and Bob . Dave grew up in the business and was later joined by Bob. They took over the growing business but sadly Fred only enjoyed a short retirement before passing suddenly away in 2002. With outstanding support from the local people and businesses Dave and Bob continue with their fathers legacy of running a family business committed to serving the local economy.
